Exact number of volcanoes on earth is still unknown. Most volcanoes are created on tectonic plate boundaries, where one plate slides under another plate and melts, causing melted rocks to bubble up into surface and create volcanoes.

The 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington was an epic volcanic eruption. The ashes were sent 24 km up to the sky. In 1991 Mount Pinatubo, Philippines exploded and this time ash covered 35 km of atmosphere.
